Welcome to your go-to guide for maintaining gorgeous hair extensions! Extensions are a fabulous way to boost your natural beauty, yet they do need a little extra care to stay looking their best. Whether you’re a newbie or just looking to refine your routine, these tips will help you keep your extensions looking fresh and your hair healthy.

Nighttime care

Before you hit the pillow, loosely tie your hair into a ponytail or braid it gently to avoid tangles overnight. This will help prevent stress on your extensions and keep them neat. Consider wearing a silk bonnet for extra protection. In the morning, carefully loosen your hair with your fingers to minimize strain on your extensions.

For the first three weeks after getting your extensions, avoid styling your hair in high ponytails or buns. Tight styles can put too much tension on the follicles, potentially leading to damage. Keep ponytails low at the base of the neck to avoid tension on your extensions.

Brushing techniques

Brushing correctly is essential for extension upkeep. Always start from the nape and work upwards, tackling tangles from the mid-shaft to the ends first. Hold your roots firmly while brushing to protect the bonds and prevent pulling. Use a special brush for extensions to safely detangle without damaging your extensions.

Washing your extensions

Hold off on washing your new extensions for the first 2-3 days to let the bonds fully set. When you do wash, tilt your head back and cleanse from top to bottom, paying special attention to the nape area where oil and sweat can accumulate. Use lukewarm water and gently pat your hair dry, applying a leave-in conditioner before you start brushing. Choose shampoos recommended by your stylist and avoid those with harsh ingredients like sulfates and parabens, which can weaken your extensions. Remember, never apply conditioner to the roots as it can cause the extensions to loosen or slip out.

Styling and heat use

Keep your styling gentle in the first few weeks. Avoid high ponytails and buns which can tug at the roots. Be cautious with heat tools—never apply heat directly to keratin bonds and even other types of extensions. Always ensure you have completely dried the where the extensions are applied before styling to prevent damage. If you have oily hair, shampoo your hair twice each wash.

Routine maintenance

Even with careful handling, extensions might shift slightly. If you notice any slipping or if an extension falls out, keep the hair—it can often be reapplied for a fee.

Consistent care

Regular brushing twice a day and proper product use are key. Consult with your stylist before trying new products to ensure they're safe for your extensions.

By sticking to these guidelines, your extensions will continue to enhance your beauty. If you're unsure about any steps or need additional advice, don’t hesitate to consult your stylist. I’m here to ensure you love your hair every day!
